Mapping street addresses and latitude and longitude
No ZIP column? You can still make a map, down to a census tract or block group.
Street addresses
Choose "Street addresses" as the place column, then pick the columns that hold the street, city, state and ZIP. If the whole address is in one column, we handle that too. We then find each address on the map and drop it into the tract or block group it sits in.
What happens to your data. Everything else stays in your browser. Only the addresses go through our server to the U.S. Census Bureau's free address finder, and we do not keep or log them. We tell you this before it happens, and pressing "Make my map" is your okay.
Limits: up to 10,000 different addresses at a time. Addresses the Census Bureau cannot find are left out, and we tell you how many. Rural routes and new streets are the usual ones to miss.
Latitude and longitude
If your list already has two columns of coordinates, choose "Latitude and longitude columns." Nothing leaves your computer. Your points are matched to their areas right in your browser.
Tips
- Spell out the full street address, like 123 Main St, not just the name of the building.
- Put the ZIP in its own column if you can. It speeds things up and finds more matches.
- Use tracts for a neighborhood picture and block groups for a few city blocks.
